Park Inventory: Team Lead Training
March 31 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm UTC-4Free
Do you want to learn more about the state of D.C.’s trees and play a role in managing the District’s canopy? Are you interested in leading a group of volunteers while putting your tree ID skills to the test?
If the answer is yes, then we need your help!
Casey Trees is gearing up for the 2018 Park Inventory season. This initiative in collaboration with the Urban Forest Division, Department of Park and Recreation and the National Forest Service is the first of its kind and aims to quantify the state of our urban canopy–from the ground up. This class will build your confidence, tree identification skills, measuring skills and ability to enthusiastically lead a group of individuals through park inventories during this year’s data collection season, certifying you as a Team Leader.
What is a Team Lead?
Our team leads play a vital role in our park inventory program. These Team Leads manage and lead teams of 4-5 volunteers at our inventories that occur on Saturdays in the fall and spring seasons. You will be responsible for (1) The collection of precise and accurate tree, health and species data, (2) Safety of the team, (3) Ensuring that your team is having a great time!
Who Should Attend?
This is an invite-only even for those who have participated in 2-3 park inventories. Email Sophie Earll at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested and to see if you qualify.
The Requirements / Process
1.) Attendance at 2-3 park inventories during 2016-2017 season + Receive an Invitation to Training
2.) Complete Park Inventory Team Leader Training
3.) Attend and Shadow as Team Lead in Training
Once the training class is complete, team leads attend inventories during the seasons under the guidance of a mentor (Casey Trees Staff or UFD arborist). Pass with high marks and you will become a full-fledged park inventory team lead, leading volunteers efficiently and confidently!
