Park Inventory: RFK Stadium
November 3 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm UTC-4
We need you! Join Casey Trees at RFK to collect important information about trees in Southeast.
Curious about the redevelopment to take place around the RFK stadium? Join us as we inventory the trees growing along this planned campus. During this joint advocacy-citizen science event, you’ll learn more about how D.C. plans to revitalize this area and how you can influence those plans through advocacy. The data you collect during this inventory will be instrumental as advocacy volunteers work to prioritize trees in the new designs.
If you love science, trees and promoting green developments, this is the event for you! Come put your tree skills to the test and take in some fresh air with fellow nature enthusiasts.
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will split into groups and begin assessing trees. We will document tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown, overall health, and more.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. If you have participated in our Trees 101 or Trees 201 class, this will be a great way to put your knowledge into action!
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain, shine or with frosty temperatures so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and light snacks.
RFK Stadium is just east of the Stadium-Armoury Metro Station.
Where to Meet
Be on the lookout for the green/white Casey Trees table. Participants will be emailed a detailed map closer to the inventory date.
