Park Inventory: LeDroit Park
August 18 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm UTC-4Free
Come close out the summer inventory season with Casey Trees. Join us at the Park at LeDroit to observe and inventory the trees in this historic neighborhood. Although we’ve planted an array of trees here, these trees have never been surveyed for their health, size or species so we need your help!
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques participants will split into groups and begin measuring trees. We will be documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown, overall health and more.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. If you have participated in our Trees 101 or Trees 201 class, this will be a great way to put your knowledge into action!
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain or shine so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and a snack.
We encourage public transportation or biking to get to the Park at LeDroit. Shaw-Howard Univ. Metro Station on the Green/Yellow lines is a few blocks southeast. Go east on S St., Turn left on 6th St., right on T St., left on 3rd St. which will take you straight to the park at Elm St. Metrobus line G2 stops on 4th St.
Where to Meet
We will meet at 3rd St. and Elm St. Be on the lookout for the green/white Casey Trees table. Participants will be emailed a detailed map closer to the inventory date.
Meals Light refreshments will be provided.
