Park Inventory: John Marshall Park Part II
August 16, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm UTC-4Free
Come spend an evening at a lovely downtown park with Casey Trees!
Cooped up in an office all day? Want to take in some fresh air while you finesse your tree species knowledge? Join Casey Trees at John Marshall Park to inventory trees. Half the park has been inventoried so we’re looking to finish the job, surveying for health, size and species. Join us!
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques participants will split into groups and begin measuring trees. We will be documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown, overall health and more.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. If you have participated in our Trees 101 or Trees 201 class, this will be a great way to put your knowledge into action!
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain or shine so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and a snack.
John Marshall Park is one block Southeast down Constitution Ave. from Archives-Navy Mem’l Metro Station on the Green/Yellow lines. Metrobus line P6 lets off on Constitution Ave on the South side of the park. Bikers can enjoy the National Mall and scoot North on 4th St. between the West and East wings of the National Gallery of Art.
Where to Meet
We will meet at the John Marshall statue off C St. Be on the lookout for the green/white Casey Trees table. Participants will be emailed a detailed map closer to the inventory date.
Meals Light refreshments will be provided.
