Park Inventory: Garfield Park
August 5, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm EDTFree
Join Casey Trees on their last inventory of the season!
Come join Casey Trees on their last inventory of the season in the beautiful Garfield Park. Many of these trees have never been surveyed for their health and size before. We need your help. Want to put your tree skills to the test before fall sets in?
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on site. After learning the tools and techniques participants will split up into groups and begin measuring trees. We will be documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown, overall health and more.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. Although, if you’ve participated in our Trees 101 or Trees 201 class, this will be a great way to put your knowledge into action!
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain or shine so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and a snack.
Public transportation is a great option for reaching Garfield Park easily and conveniently. The Capitol South Metro Station (Blue, Orange and Silver Line) is a 7-minute walk away. The Navy Yard Metro station (Green line) is a 9-minute walk away. Local buses (P6, P17, P19 and V1) also provide easy access to the Park. Coming from across town? We suggest car-pooling with fellow volunteers as street parking will be available in the surrounding area. There is plenty of bike parking as well!
Where to Meet
We will meet in the park across from the intersection of 2nd St SE and F St SE. Be on the lookout for the green/white Casey Trees table. Participants will be emailed a detailed map closer to the inventory date.
Light refreshments will be provided.
