[CANCELLED] Citizen Science: Park Inventory at 3rd and I St. Park
May 14, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT
Free
Come join us as we survey the trees at the 3rd and I St. Park!
It might surprise you to know there is no current record of the trees in our parks. But you can help change that!
Participants will receive a short, hands-on training in the park. After learning the tools and techniques participants will split up into groups and begin measuring trees. We will be documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown and more.
What is Citizen Science, you ask??
It is the collection and analysis of data relating to the natural world by members of the general public, typically as part of a collaborative project with professional scientists. – Oxford Dictionary
At Casey Trees we use Citizen Science as a means to explore real world science applications with all people through the lens of trees. We collect data on our trees to monitor the health and inform our management of our urban forest.
Who Should Attend?
Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us.
Come Prepared
We will plan to conduct the inventory rain or shine, so please wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking short distances. Participants are welcome to bring water and a snack.
Meals
Granola bars will be provided as well as plenty of water.
Getting There
Public Transit: The closest metro station is Waterfront Station, a 0.3 mile from the park. Buses P6 and V1 run on I St. and have stops near the park.
