Make 2017 Your Year of Service

If ever there was a year to fight for and support important issues we care about this new year, this is it— especially in D.C.! We are grateful to have such a devoted core of volunteers with diverse backgrounds and interests. So we’re offering new ways for both longtime volunteers and new, interested parties to get involved.

Depending on your interests, there’s a satisfying way for everyone to volunteer and get involved:

Citizen Forester Team Leaders. Team Leaders manage a team of volunteers at our Community Tree Plantings  in the fall and spring. Recognized by their earned snazzy red vests, every Team Leader commands a group of 3 to 5 volunteers and is responsible for the quality of the tree planting and the safety of the team. Team Leaders must complete the Tree Planting Workshop offered twice a year in March and October. Team Leaders also must work with a mentor at a minimum of two plantings in the same season in order to pass the training. No prior experience is necessary, and the rewards are immeasurable!

*New* Registration Volunteers. We are excited to announce a new volunteer opportunity at Casey Trees. At every volunteer event, we need folks to help check in volunteers and get them suited up for their activities. These are Registration Volunteers. We ask Registration Volunteers to attend a training, then attend 3 events per season. Each event could last anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. Take the next step for this helpful opportunity by signing up here!

Outreach Volunteers. Increase demand for trees in the nation’s capital by becoming a Casey Trees Outreach Volunteer! Represent Casey Trees at city-wide events such as farmers markets, festivals and neighborhood gatherings largely held outdoors. Outreach Volunteers help us get the word out about the programs and events Casey Trees offers that make D.C.’s neighborhoods greener, healthier places to live. Volunteers will attend a training session and one event per month. Interested parties will need to fill out an application. The next training session is the evening of Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

Opportunities for Groups sized 5 to 20. Are you looking for a way to serve your community with your friends, colleagues, and/or peers? If so, please fill out the Group Volunteer Request Form and we’ll be in touch about our upcoming opportunities. Groups will be able to sign up for select tree plantings, tree inventories and tree care events. See below for a general timeline of activities:

Tree Plantings– Start March 11th and end May 13th. Tree Plantings occur every Saturday.

Tree Inventories– Start April 29th and conclude in August. Inventories occur Saturdays and weekday evenings.

Tree Care Events– Start in June and conclude in September. Tree care events occur 1-2 Saturdays per month during the summer on Saturdays.
