Urban
life is tough on trees -- pollution, weather extremes, neglect,
traffic accidents, construction, and vandalism all take their toll.
So it’s important to plant the right trees the right way in the
right locations. Our goal is not to simply fill empty spaces, but
to plant and nurture healthy, thriving trees that neighborhood residents
will be proud to call their own. To reach this goal, local residents
must be involved in the planning, planting, and care of their trees.
And training and mobilizing these teams of residents requires a
committed volunteer force.
Tree
planting season in Washington, DC begins in October and lasts to
early May. Every fall and spring, Casey Trees helps organize community-based
tree planting projects in each ward of the city. We work with neighborhood
groups and Citizen Foresters to plan these projects, and to then
recruit teams of community volunteers to plant the new trees.
