High School Summer Crew

Casey Trees’ Summer Crew is a high school jobs program where teams of students serve as caretakers for the District’s trees for eight weeks in the summer. General responsibilities include watering, weeding and mulching trees. Crew members travel by truck and street bike (as a part of the Water By-Cycle team). Crew members work 35 hours per week and earn $9.00 per hour. The 2012 summer season will be June 22 to August 3.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible, you must be:

  • enrolled in or just graduating from a high school in the D.C. area.
  • 16 years old or older.
  • willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions with a variety of landscaping tools and equipment.
  • interested in caring for and learning about trees.
  • able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

Selection Process

A select number of candidates are invited to interview based on their application and personal and/or professional reference responses. Finalists participate in a field tryout to experience the demands of the job and demonstrate their abilities. The number of Summer Crew positions is limited and selection is competitive. Interviews will be held on a rotating basis between April 16 and May 31. Field tryouts will be held June 18 and 19.
