Rebate Your Christmas Tree

The Holiday season is officially here! Everywhere you go, streets are filled with lights, laughter, and cheer. Decorations are quickly going up and if you’re still on the fence about what kind of Holiday Tree you want this year – allow us to suggest a new tradition that will bring fun to the whole family.

This year, rebate your Holiday Tree through Casey Trees! You can choose from our wide variety of rebatable tree species (which include many evergreens and conifers your typical “Holiday Tree”) and buy the tree from your local nursery or garden center – be sure to keep the receipt! Go on to decorate the new tree(s) just as you would any other Christmas Tree. Bonus points for all large canopy trees that will gift DC with canopy coverage for years to come!

Here are a few examples of trees that are eligible for a $100 or $50 rebate – all of which would make fantastic Christmas trees.

Arborvitae

Latin for “tree of life,” the arborvitae is a dense, conical tree with yellowish-green leaves that can add some privacy to your yard as a hedge or screen. Graceful and symmetrical, the scale-like leaves turn darker green with age and may bronze up in the winter. While full sun is the ideal condition for this tree, the arborvitae tolerates some light afternoon shade and reaches a height of 30 feet. You can get up to $100 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.

Cryptomeria

Slender and symmetrical, the cryptomeria is a lovely evergreen conifer with peeling reddish-brown bark, blue-green needles, and branching that is slightly pendulous at the tips. A prized timber tree in its native habitat of Japan and China – the wood is strongly rot-resistant and is used for buildings, bridges, ships, lamp posts, furniture, and paper manufacture. Best grown in full sun but can tolerate late shade, cryptomerias usually grow to about 50 feet. You can get up to $100 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.

Leyland Cypress

The Leyland Cypress is a fast-growing evergreen tree. The tree’s dense growth and tall height make it a great choice for creating a living border that will block unwanted sights and reduce neighborhood noise. Besides its utility, this evergreen is nice to look at with feathery soft, textured leaves. Leyland Cypress will easily grow three to four feet per year, even on poor soils, and will ultimately attain a majestic height between 35-50 feet with a spread of 15 to 25 feet. You can get up to $50 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.

This elegant tree has large fragrant flowers that bloom from March to June, striking seed pods that drop bright red seeds in the fall, and bold, beautiful leaves. Southern magnolias are a much sought-after, durable evergreen tree that grace gardens and yards throughout the District. Southern magnolias reach approximately 50 feet in height in about 50 years. It thrives in full sun or partial shade. You can get up to $100 back for planting this tree yourself through our tree rebate program.
