Impervious Surface Area Charge and the District’s Stormwater fee
On May 1, 2000 the District increased its stormwater fee to generate $13 million needed to meet federal requirements and reduce pollution to our rivers. Residents may have noticed two new fees on their water bills: the Impervious Surface Area Charge, (the Water and Sewer Authority-WASA) and the District’s Stormwater fee (the District Department of the Environment – DDOE) .
Casey Trees testified in support of the increase and, along with other environmental partners, encouraged the District to move to a fee structure based on the amount of impervious surface on a site, with discount and incentive programs for those who make onsite improvements to reduce runoff. The incentive programs for are slated to begin May 1, 2010.
