November and December Programming

November and December are just around the corner! There are plenty of great classes and activities to both get into the holiday mindset and to also de-stress and maybe giveback during a very busy time of year!

One opportunity we would like to highlight is the Tree Inventory at Crispus Attucks Park on Veterans Day— Wednesday, November 11. Participants will receive a short hands-on training in the park and then jump right into documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown and more.

You do not need any prior experience to join us, and participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy a picnic in the park!

Additional classes, tree tours and trainings with open spots or waitlist availability still available include:

Sunday, November 1— Tree Tour: Fall in Rock Creek Park 125th Anniversary Hike

Our fall hike, the fourth and final in the series, will take hikers along the Western Ridge Trail — the rockiest but most scenic stretch of Rock Creek Park — to soak in the gorgeous display of autumn color which should be at its peak.

Waitlist available.

Thursday, November 5— Tree Advocates Meeting: Whats Your Tree Story?

Meet Ward Serrill, the award-winning director behind TreeStory, a film about humanity’s special relationship to trees. As a bonus, we will have a popcorn bar and other movie snacks to enjoy as we watch episodes from the film. Free.

Friday, November 6— Family Program: Buds Story Time at the Hill Center

Join us at the Hill Center for our Buds family program, a tree-focused story time aimed toward an audience of toddlers and preschoolers. The story time will feature three to four tree and environment focused books interspersed with songs and a craft project. Each family will leave with a list of seasonally appropriate “scavenger hunt items” to explore the Hill Center on their own after the Buds program has concluded.  Free.

Saturday, November 7— Class: Trees 101

Join us for this introductory course covering tree anatomy, tree identification, and an overview of the benefits of the District’s urban forest. Free.

Wednesday, November 11— Tree Inventory at Crispus Attucks

It might surprise you to know that there is no current record of the trees in our parks. But you can help change that! Come join us as we inventory the trees in Crispus Attucks. Free.
