Count Trees on the National Mall

This summer we successfully inventoried over 2,000 trees in nine parks across the District of Columbia! Come and join Casey Trees this fall as we measure the stately elms lining the Reflecting Pool and the majestic cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in honor of the National Park Service’s 100th birthday! It’s been over a decade since these iconic trees have been inventoried and we need to learn all that we can about their health and growth patterns.

Register now by clicking on any of the tree inventory events below! And hurry, as we expect these events to fill up quickly given the star-status of these famous trees.

September 9  |  National Mall (12th Street)

September 12  |  Reflecting Pool

September 16  |  Jefferson Memorial

September 17  |  Tidal Basin (Northeast side)

September 24  |  Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial

September 29  |  National Mall (7th Street)

Participants will receive a short, hands-on training on the Mall. After learning about the tools and techniques, attendees will split up into groups and begin measuring trees. We will be documenting tree species, height, diameter of the trunk, width of the crown, and more.

We hope you are able to join us for this important step in caring for our nation’s iconic trees. See you on the Mall!
