Introducing the New Communication and Development Interns

With the Canopy Awards approaching we are stacking our lineup here at Casey Trees — these two ladies have their work cut out for them. Meet our two new interns who will have key roles in planning the 2016 Canopy Awards!

Sabrina — our new Development Intern, comes to us straight from CityYear and will be focusing on our Canopy Awards Silent Auction as well as helping with the Membership program!

We asked Sabrina about what brought her here to Casey Trees and what she is looking forward to:

Casey Trees (CT): Who is Sabrina Fedele?

Sabrina Fedele (SF): Sabrina Fedele is a 24 year old from Short Hills, New Jersey who graduated from Loyola University of Maryland in 2014 with a Bachelors in Psychology and General Business minor. Her favorite hobbies are writing, photography, tennis, and playing the piano. She’s hoping to go to graduate school for an MS in Sustainability Science & Policy within two years. She’s been living in Columbia Heights since July 2015.

CT: What drew you to Casey Trees?

SF: I was drawn to Casey Trees because it’s a sustainable non-profit with integrity that gets results. Seeing the roof garden, tree annex, and front yard that diverts rainfall showed me that this company put their ideas into practice.

CT: What excites you most about your internship here?

SF: I look forward to meeting, networking, and interacting with a host of people for the Canopy Awards.

CT: What’s your New Year’s resolution?

SF: My New Year’s resolution is to go vegan by learning how to cook new, delicious meals.

CT: Do you have a favorite tree? If so why?

SF: My favorite tree is a Japanese Maple because its leaves are a deep red that really stand out. It’s beautiful to me.

Meghan Adams is our new Communications and Event intern! We are very excited and happy to have Meghan on board as Canopy Award preparations are in full swing, you might even see her as a guest writer for the Leaflet!

As someone who is in the journalism scene we asked her some hard hitting questions about writing and event planning — meet Meghan:

Casey Trees (CT): Tell us a little about yourself.

Meghan Adams (MA): Hi! I’m Meghan and I am a junior at The Catholic University of America majoring in Media and Communication Studies and minoring in Islamic World Studies. I’m from just outside of Baltimore city so the DMV has always been home. I love playing ice hockey, kayaking, Netflixing and finding new music to listen to.

CT: You write for The Tower, The Catholic University Paper, what is your “beat”? What has been your favorite story to write so far?

MA: For the most part I write about school news — new policies, new programs and general happenings; however I am hoping to start writing more about D.C. related and national news. My favorite story I have written so far was one about a new certificate program that my major created (sounds very academic and boring, I know) but it’s because it made me realize how many cool and different things I am able to do through my major.

CT: What is your favorite D.C. spot?

MA: My favorite spot in D.C. is the Bonsai Tree Garden at the National Arboretum. The Arboretum as a whole is pretty amazing, but the miniature trees are adorable to look at and it really feels like an escape from the busy city. My second favorite place is the Newseum, because I am a huge news and history junkie.

CT: What is your New Year’s resolution?

MA: My New Year’s resolution is to start cooking more of my own food, read one non-school related book each month, and watch one film off my “movie bucket list” each week.

CT: You’ll play a big part in planning the 2016 Canopy Awards. If you could plan any party or event with an unlimited budget what would it be?

MA: I would love to plan my own three-day music festival. It would be somewhere where there is a bunch of tiny islands, and each little island is a different artist/ genre playing. People can go onto the island to watch the performers or hang out in inner tubes in the water and watch the show, then there’s one bigger island everyone camps out at during the night. Beyoncé will be there.
