Trees Count is Casey Trees' tree inventory program that helps local neighborhood groups collect information about their trees, identify plantable spaces and develop achievable strategies to add new and protect existing trees on private property.

Each tree inventory is customized to meet the goals of the requesting group.  There is no charge for this service.

Why Inventory Your Trees

There are many reasons why you should consider inventorying trees in your neighborhood. While you may already have a few goals in mind, we will help you solidify them early in the process to ensure that we collect the appropriate data, propose a practical time line and staff appropriately.

You may want to consider incorporating some of the following goals from previous inventories:

  • Determine the health and condition, location and species of trees located within predetermined boundaries
  • Increase awareness of the important role trees play in making urban environments more livable
  • Engage residents to help care for and protect existing trees on and surrounding their property
  • Identify locations to add new trees on private property
  • Develop a tree management plan
  • Forge a partnership with Casey Trees

Deliverables

Following a tree inventory, each requesting group receives the following:

  • Detailed analysis addressing the goals and recommended next steps
  • Custom site maps illustrating the findings
  • Results added as a layer on our interactive Casey Trees Maps

We also pledge to continue working with you to help you add new trees to your community. A Community Tree Planting is frequently the ideal next step.

Expectations

Tree inventories are designed to be fun and educational community events. Requesting groups are expected to recruit volunteers to help on the day of the inventory.  Most neighborhood tree inventories take place on Saturdays.

No experience is necessary. Volunteers are paired with a Casey Trees-trained Citizen Forester or staff member.
