Trees of Note

Trees of Note

Casey Trees is pleased to introduce Trees of Note, an interactive program created to connect people to trees in the District deemed special because of their size, history and/or personal significance.

A new feature of the Casey Trees Map, individuals can nominate, or locate, trees in three distinguished categories – Big Trees, Witness Trees, or My Tree.

  • Big Trees are those valued for their sheer size and eligible for nomination to the American Forests' National Register of Big Trees which profiles the largest of 826 species of trees in the United States.
  • Witness Trees are trees present during a historical event or period.
  • My Trees are those with personal meaning such as a tree planted in celebration of the birth of a child or even a tree whose blossoms you look forward to seeing each year.

We encourage you to explore the Trees of Note interface to learn more about the trees that help define the District's urban landscape.

Nominate or locate a tree now.
