Why a Tree Report Card?
Constructive feedback is an integral part of growing as an individual, an organization, or even a city. It helps to have someone else keeping tabs on how you’re doing and ways you could improve. With that in mind, Casey Trees annually releases our Tree Report Card, a yearly progress check as we move collectively toward our tree canopy goal of 40 percent by 2035. It’s our way of honoring Arbor Day.
The report card offers grades for the city in terms of Tree Coverage, Tree Health, Tree Planting and Tree Protection. In an effort to make the Tree Report Card as reliable and informed as possible, this year we removed the analysis of Tree Awareness. It is, of course, crucial that residents and lawmakers are informed about our tree canopy, but we have never been satisfied with our methods for measuring that metric and decided it would be better not to include it.
We reach our grades only after weeks of deliberation and analysis of data from a number of sources both private and public. For the first time ever, this year we had to give the District an Incomplete overall grade. Take a few minutes to read through the Tree Report Card and find out why.
