Help us win big! This year we’ve been nominated again!
The Washington City Paper’s annual Best of D.C. 2013 campaign is here, and we’re in the running for not one, but two awards – Best Place to Volunteer & Best Non-Profit. We’re proud of the nominations, but that’s not good enough. We think our past year’s work is worthy of winning!
There are a lot of deserving vote-getters out there. So why vote for us? For starters, 2012 was one of our best years ever. We celebrated our 10-year anniversary by letting our numbers do the talking:
Our Community Tree Planting program expanded its reach outside of the District for the first time: we planted at two schools, a condo complex, county public spaces and military bases located in MD and VA. 660 students at 27 different schools were able to plant a total of 230 trees last year, in addition to the 1,300+ volunteers that added 1,093 trees to the District’s tree canopy.
Our RiverSmart Homes Shade Tree program exceeded its tree-planting expectations by 175 trees (35%), as well as our Tree Rebate program by 148 trees (42%).
In October, we hosted the Tree Canopy Symposium, which featured policymakers, industry experts, scientists, practitioners and concerned citizens. Topics of discussion included the importance of our urban tree canopy and opportunities for regional cooperation and coordination.
Our online Tree Talk series also continues to engage tree enthusiasts with a diverse group of tree-related topics and the chats have recently doubled in frequency, now the second and fourth Thursday of every month.
It’s safe to say that the success of Casey Trees has been a direct result of each and every one of our donors, staff, volunteers, friends and advocates. Even though 2012 was great, we’re determined to do even better in 2013!
So show your support and leave your mark by donating a few minutes of your time! Since we’re nominated for two categories, there are two ballots to show your love: Best Place to Volunteer & Best Non-Profit. Both can be found under the “People and Places” group – and voting ends on March 1 at 11:59 p.m.
(FYI: there are some rules to be aware of. There is only one vote per person, per category – and please don’t use multiple email addresses. Both votes could get voided if you break the rules.)
