Tune in for Tomorrow’s Tree Talk Thursday

Grab your lunch and join us for the conversation, “Bearing Fruit: Planting Urban Orchards,” tomorrow from noon to 1 p.m. We’ll be discussing fruit trees in an urban environment with our Director of Planting Jim Woodward and Bread for the City Food Pantry Specialist Jeff Wankel. We’re taking your questions for our experts now via email and Twitter, and you can also ask questions during the chat.
Bread for the City provides food and services to underserved residents of D.C., and Casey Trees is teaming up with the non-profit Sunday, March 25, to plant fruit trees in Bread for the City’s orchard Beltsville, MD. Though not a CTP, we are looking for some more stellar volunteers to help plant the apple, Asian pear, persimmon trees and more in the orchard.
After you sign up for the Tree Talk Thursday, check out our in-the-works feature on our new website, our fruit tree profiles. You can read about apple, cherry, fig, pawpaw, peach, pear, persimmon and plum trees, all for which we offer rebates to homeowners for planting. Casey Trees will be planting these fruit trees, as well as a variety of nut trees and other fruit species, throughout our spring planting season — 252 trees total!
