National Child Research Center Preschool: Planting Recap

This morning marked an unusual, but incredibly fun, event for us – we joined 21 preschoolers and 17 parents and volunteers at the National Child Research Center Preschool for a school planting! It was our second planting with the group – the first was actually this past spring, where were planted 5 trees throughout their playground and campus. It was a special exception for us – we don’t usually plant with friends that young, but we had an excellent group to work with. The large parent presence helped ensure everyone’s safety, and the mild weather added to the great mood!

Our project organizers Sheela Woo & Julie Gen helped organize another 5 trees for this morning’s planting: a tulip poplar, a hornbeam, a sweetbay magnolia, a white fringetree, and a serviceberry. And the children couldn’t wait to join in on the fun. As Sara Turner, our Urban Forestry Manager, went over the proper techniques and safety procedures, the children eagerly asked – “Where’s the kiddie pick-axe?” Needless to say, we had many, many busy hands and feet helping us put those trees in the ground.

A special thanks to all the children, parents, and volunteers that helped today – check out more photos from this morning coming soon, as well as many of our other plantings this season, on our Flickr page.
