CTP Recap: Langston Apartments and Westover Drive Community

We had a busy weekend planting trees at Westover Drive and Langston Apartments on Saturday, as well as a fruit tree workshop with Bread for the City on Sunday.

We were out at the Langston Apartment buildings in Ward 8 last weekend, planting 11 trees, including one apple and one pear trees, in and around their parking lot and community center. We had 34 great volunteers come out, including the GWU Service Learning Group and the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency. Our tree planters were led by Lead Citizen Forester Geoff Hatchard, a CF since  2005.

Nearby in Ward 7 on a hilltop neighborhood called Westover Drive, 21 volunteers planted 10 trees on residential properties, including hollies, plums and serviceberries. Thanks to volunteer groups from Peace Corps, GWU Service Learning group and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Project Organizer Gina Stevens, and Lead Citizen Forester Drew Ewing for helping make it possible.

On Sunday, we had a great time working with Bread for the City on their fruit tree planting project at their new City Orchard venture, where 200 trees and bushes were planted in one morning. Read their detailed account of this weekend’s tree planting effort.
