25 to Stay Alive
The trees in your life need 25 gallons water each week to thrive. That’s about an inch and a half of rain or 30 minutes of the hose on low. We want you to have all the tools you need to help keep your trees happy and quenched, so every week we release a watering alert for the D.C. area. Based on weekly precipitation and streamflow data, our watering alerts guide residents on how much they need to water their trees.
A Wet alert means we have been getting plenty of rain, and that it is unnecessary for you to water your trees any more. A Normal alert indicates that additional watering is optional for the week. A Dry alert tells you to get out there and give your trees the whole 25 gallons they need.
You can find our watering alerts on our homepage every Monday through September. We also Tweet about them and put them on our Facebook page.
Additionally, we recommend everyone sign our 25 to Stay Alive pledge, committing themselves to ensuring the trees on their property or in the surrounding area get the recommended 25 gallons per week. As thanks, we will send you a rain gauge to help track how much precipitation we get.
